I really haven’t been updating this blog much because I’ve been rather busy with rehearsals the past few weeks. Rehearsals have been going well and I think we’re in pretty good shape. Today the crew have moved into the Arts House and the show opens this coming Thursday. It has often been said that collaboration [...]

Only As Good As The Musical Is Popular
Monday, 9 April, 2012
I’ve been listening to the soundtrack to “Wicked” for quite some time now, and the more I listen, the more I realise what a fantastic collection of songs “Wicked” is. Stephen Schwartz really did an incredible job on that one. For some strange reason, my favourite song from the musical is now “The Wizard and [...]
Speaking Of Titles…
Thursday, 29 March, 2012
Well, speaking of titles… As some of you might know, I’ve been writing on “Buttons in the Bread” for quite awhile now. Recently I’ve developed some kind of new hobby. Whenever I’m at a theatre show, and I intend to review it on “Buttons”, the first thing that I will do during the show is [...]

I’m really bad at grasping the abstract. Often times I find myself watching a film or a play and I come out of the theatre not understanding a single thing I had seen. Sometimes it seems the only kind of things I can grasp are the naturalistic shows. But what I know is that I [...]
Trainstopping Thoughts 2: Writing, Rewriting
Saturday, 17 March, 2012
“Plays and musicals are not written, they are rewritten.” I must have seen this line a hundred times, in all the various theatre books I’ve read the past few years. But you never really learn to appreciate what it truly means until you try to write something professionally with a theatre company. The past week [...]

“Defying Gravity: The Creative Career of Stephen Schwartz”
Thursday, 1 March, 2012
I recently stumbled upon this book while roaming the central library, and was extremely pleased at my discovery. If there was one Broadway composer whose life story I dearly wanted to read about, it would have been Stephen Schwartz, since I’d previously already read stuff on Rodgers & Hammerstein, Lerner & Loewe and Sondheim. Of [...]

“I Won’t Last A Day Without You” by The Carpenters
Tuesday, 21 February, 2012
Nice song. I learnt about this song when I was watching the play “Singapore” by The Necessary Stage. Great stuff. The verses are OK, but the chorus is killer. The Carpenters never disappoint.
