Have you ever noticed that people in old American movies talked different? As in, they talked with a slightly different accent as compared to those in movies today.
I’ll give you an example. I’ve noticed that most people in those old American movies tend to talk like this:
You don’t really find many [...]

My current obsession is with film scores.
Have been reading up on a number of books on the subject lately, as well as perusing the works of John Williams, Alan Silvestri, Hans Zimmer and Klaus Badelt.
I think film scoring is such a fascinating genre of music and there is such a wealth of material to explore.
Almost [...]

I once mentioned that while we should always give local productions a chance, we should not evaluate them on a less stringent criteria just because they are “local”.
There is a difference between supporting local productions and being unfairly lenient to them just because they carry the “local” tag. I really don’t [...]

The movie “Sing to the Dawn” opens in cinemas 30th October, and I am looking forward to it.
(Trailer and screenshots can be found on the official movie website (here).)
I’ve been hearing and reading about this movie for the longest time, but only now is it finally being released in our theatres.
According [...]

Film Scoring

You know how in life sometimes the discovery of one thing tends to lead to another and stuff.
Anyway about a month ago I learnt from a friend that the NUS Wind Symphony (which he plays in) will be putting up their annual concert “Da Capo” at the Victoria Concert Hall on 17th Oct (plug plug!), [...]

I don’t think there is anyone who watches “Mamma Mia!” the movie and is not immediately convinced of the songwriting genius of ABBA (namely Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson, who were the chief songwriters of the group).
My 3 favourite songs, in order of appearance are:
1) Our Last Summer
2) Super Trouper
3) Slipping Through My Fingers

You tend to appreciate a movie more when you can identify with some of the circumstances which the protagonists go through.
It makes you sit back and think.
Maybe that’s one reason why I enjoyed “27 Dresses”.
In the movie, Jane (Katherine Heigl) is the sweet helpful girl who never says “no” to her friends, and is always [...]

Taking long flights is usually the only chance I get to catch up on movies which I missed in the last, say…one year or so. (Yeah, I hardly ever go to the movies.)
On my flight to Amsterdam and back, I managed to squeeze in a more-than-normal amount of movies.
Ah Long Pte Ltd: Wanted to catch [...]

If there was one movie scene which made me decide that I wanted to become a songwriter, it was the above scene from “Music & Lyrics”.
I don’t think there was any other movie scene I’ve watched in my life which moved me as much this one.
I’ll never forget Drew Barrymore’s expression [...]

Is it just me, or does Royston Tan happen to have a very strong affinity towards numbers in his film titles?
Wikipedia states that his last three feature films were entitled:
881 (2007)
4:30 (2006)
15: The Movie (2003)
He also had other short films entitled “48 on AIDS”, “24 HRS”, “15″ and “177155″.
Guess what his upcoming movie is called?
“1028″.
