I dunno about this one man.
It’s their new single called “Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall”.
Most of the comments on YouTube seem to be very positive.
I get that Coldplay is trying to slowly but steadily move into a new musical direction, towards a new sound perhaps.
I say “slowly” because you can still hear traces of their “Viva La Vida”-ness.
There’s that constant thumping beat of the drum.
Then there’s that trademark anthemic “whooaa-oh-oh” singalong hook somewhere in the middle.
This song is part “Life In Technicolour”, part “Lovers In Japan”, and part “Viva La Vida”.
But then there’s also that new element of hip-hop-ness to it as well, especially in the verse, because of the rhythmic and repetitive nature of its melody.
Do I think this new song could grow on me?
For sure.
Do I think this new song is worthy of the band being billed as “the world’s biggest band”?
Not really, to be honest.
