WP Rally @ Bedok Stadium
This election my aim is to see the following politicians speak live:
- Kenneth Jeyaretnam (done)
- Low Thia Khiang (done)
- Sylvia Lim (done)
- Chiam See Tong
- Vincent Wijeysingha
So far, I’ve cleared 3 out of 5 already.
Not too bad eh?
I will probably clear Vincent Wijeysingha tomorrow, so that would leave me with the whole of next week to catch Chiam See Tong speak at least once.
Tonight due to some last-minute change of plans, I suddenly found myself with nothing on so I decided to attend the Workers’ Party rally at Bedok Stadium.
The turnout was massive, and the stadium was easily 75% filled (this includes all the space on the running track and the football pitch).
Some say the turnout was around 20,000.
I dunno, might be.
One thing’s for certain – the Workers’ Party sure can command a crowd.
What did I think of the WP’s rally?
I thought they put up a credible presentation.
They gave me the impression that they had good plans and ideas, and that they had sensible heads on their shoulders.
They gave me the impression that they could be trusted to bring the needs and concerns of the people into Parliament.
They gave me the impression that they were intelligent and sophisticated enough to truly bring us towards a “First World Parliament”.
There were some great lines uttered.
I loved Glenda Han’s line when she was speaking out on the general dissatisfaction with the ever-rising but never-decreasing prices of public transport: “Minister Raymond Lim, I know you are the Transport Minister in Singapore, but please do not take us for a ride.”
Pure genius!
Then there was also Low Thia Khiang’s line when we was speaking out on the many difficulties faced when carrying out his duties as an elected MP in an opposition ward: “They (the PAP) asked me to play a game of soccer, but they used a goalpost smaller than the ball!”
Next up…SDP rally.
…
Just a small note: Just minutes after Low Thia Khiang ended the rally at 10pm, it started to drizzle.
It had been threatening to rain all night, but the first raindrops only started falling on the Bedok Stadium a few minutes after 10pm.
I’m just saying.
