2011 Season – Same Old, Same Old

Watching the Melbourne GP today is like the same ominous feeling you get on your first day of school, finding out that your new form teacher is the nightmare that you’ve always wanted to avoid.

In other words, you’re like “Uh-oh, looks like we’re in for a very long season!”

I’m referring to the sheer dominance of Vettel in the Red Bull.

Doesn’t bode well for the rest of the teams at all.

It seems as if nothing’s really changed since last season.

Vettel is still the quickest, followed by the chasing pack of Alonso, Webber and the two McLarens.

And Schumacher and Massa are still always playing catchup behind their teammates.

Let’s hope the subsequent races provide a bit more excitement than Melbourne.

  1. Remember 2009? When Jenson Button in the Brawn was clearly running away with it in the first 5 or 6 races? I am not too worried. Red Bull has a long long history of throwing away clear wins with their strategic screw ups.

  2. Good point, hootie. Let’s hope it’s something like 2009 again.

I guess history has shown us that one should never read too much into the first race. Last year, for example, Ferrari started with a bang by coming in 1-2 in the opening race in Bahrain, but then lost steam shortly after that.

It’s still early days yet, and there’s plenty of time for the other teams to catch up.

Here’s hoping for an exciting season once again!

(And yes, you’re right…one can always count on Red Bull to shoot themselves in the foot!)
