A Glorified Cover Artist?

I don’t know a whole lot about Olivia Ong, but I recently joined her Facebook page so at least that’s a start.

But seriously, what I know is this: She’s Singaporean, she’s spent time in Japan, she’s fairly young, she’s beautiful, and she’s got a great voice especially suited for sentimental, light jazz and even bossa nova numbers.

With her combination of great looks and talent, plus her fairly distinctive sense of style, I really think the sky’s the limit for her.

But here’s the thing: I’ve noticed that the songs she’s most famous for thus far are covers.

As far as I’m aware, the YouTube videos of her which have at least 6-figure views are songs such as “Sometimes When We Touch” (highest views), “Bleeding Love”, “Heaven”, “L-O-V-E”, “Fly Me To The Moon”, etc.

They’re all covers.

Here’s hoping that she does more original songs which become huge hits, regardless of whether she writes them herself or whether someone else writes them for her.

I just don’t wish to see her turn into a highly-glorified cover-singer and nothing more.

As I said, I think the sky’s the limit for Olivia Ong and I truly hope that she carves out a hugely successful solo career for herself, and that she has original hit songs to call her own.

I really think she has what it takes to make it big and I hope she does.
