The Right Way To Shop At IKEA

I think I’ve found the correct way to shop at IKEA.

Not too long ago, I had to get a chair from IKEA.

I roughly knew what kind of chair I wanted and how much I was willing to spend on it.

So I went on a weekday during a non-peak hour so as to avoid any form of crowds.

I headed straight for the section which had chairs, I sat on a few of them just to make sure I liked the feel of it, I settled on a particular model which I really liked (I think it was called “Tobias”), and I went to the nearest information counter to place my order.

And here’s the catch.

From then on, I grabbed a map to find out exactly where I was and what the shortest way to the check-out counters was, and I just put my head down and trudged purposefully along without even hesitating for a single moment to look at any of the items I passed by.

(By the way, there are “shortcuts” on each level of IKEA to get you to the cashiers quickly.)

It was definitely tough, but I eventually made it safely to the cashiers without having succumbed to picking up anything along the way, or convincing myself that I somehow needed to buy additional items which I had absolutely no intention of buying before stepping into IKEA.

It’s not something that is easy to do, for sure.

Try stepping into IKEA and coming out with only just 1 item.

It’s really difficult.

But I’m glad I resisted the temptation, and I’m glad I discovered the “right way” to shop at IKEA, i.e. picking up the single item you want and heading straight for the cashier.

I believe it’s also called the “man’s way of shopping”.
