Songwriting Thoughts
Monday, 31 May, 2010

Haven’t blabbered on songwriting for awhile, so here goes. Pardon me for the stream-of-consciousness writing. As you know, songwriting is one of my favourite topics, so I always have lots of thoughts on the subject. Some may seem weird, and some may seem strange. But these are just my own thoughts and philosophies. To each [...]

Turkish Grand Prix
Sunday, 30 May, 2010

Well, the flashpoint of the entire race had to be the moment when Vettel inexplicably barged into Webber, thus taking both cars momentarily out of the race when they were running in a very strong 1-2 at that particular point in the race. Inexplicable. But sillier things have happened in F1. I think it was [...]

Daily Playoff Rant: Lakers vs Celtics
Sunday, 30 May, 2010

Haven’t been writing about NBA for some time. That’s cos I lost interest once the Spurs were out. Anyway, it looks like we’re gonna have a classic NBA Finals this year, in the old Lakers-Celtics tradition. I’m looking forward to watching the Finals this year. I would have to say that these were definitely the [...]

Updates
Friday, 28 May, 2010

A few friends have been asking me if I’m turning into a playwright this year. This is in light of what I posted recently about being exceedingly thrilled at having been selected in the Top 40 for “Short+Sweet Singapore”. Well, the simple answer is NO. Yes, I’ve been immersed in theatre this year and have [...]

A Missed Opportunity
Thursday, 27 May, 2010

This CNA article headline just kills me. Hot soup lands stallholder a $1,000 fine Excerpts: “She was holding the tin container filled with hot soup at the time, and Lim took the container and threw it at her stall. It landed near her, splashing her with hot soup in the process. A dispute ensued and [...]

You’ll Never Eat Alone
Tuesday, 25 May, 2010

A few weeks ago there was an article in the Sunday Times (here) about dining alone. It seems like dining out alone is a really taboo thing in Singapore. Or is it? The article quotes a lady as saying: “There is too much stigma involved. I do not want people to stare at me. It [...]

Woohoo!
Monday, 24 May, 2010

Woohoo! This year is coming along pretty nicely alright. There’s this ten-minute playwriting competition called “Short+Sweet Singapore” which is held annually at the Arts House and the Esplanade every July or so. It’s supposed to part of the biggest ten-minute playwriting competition in the world, and I believe it originated in Australia, and it is [...]

Gatz…A 7 Hour 40 Minutes Play
Sunday, 23 May, 2010

Just a quick note: Yes, I attended the famed play “Gatz” by New York-based theatre ensemble Elevator Repair Service (ERS) at the Esplanade Theatre Studio at 2pm this afternoon. No, I didn’t stay for the whole thing, which was slated to end at around 940pm(!). In fact, I left at the very first intermission at [...]

The Carnival of The Animals and Peter & The Wolf
Saturday, 22 May, 2010

My first review for the Singapore Arts Festival blog (here). Worth a read, because it was one of the most peculiar classical music performances I’ve ever attended in my life. You’ve gotta give credit to the foreigners for coming up with out-of-the-box stuff that we Singaporeans would probably never dream of doing in a hundred [...]

Meanwhile? Meantime?
Friday, 21 May, 2010

Which would you go for: a) “In the meanwhile”? or b) “In the meantime”? Apparently, both can be used. Personally, I would prefer to use “in the meantime”, because “in the meanwhile” just doesn’t really seem right to me. If I’m going to use the word “meanwhile”, I’m just going to say “Meanwhile…yada yada yada”.
