One thing which I really enjoyed doing during my trip to England was buying the newspapers every day to soak in the news.
I bought at least a few different newspapers every day and spent considerable time at night or on the long train rides reading the news.
There are so many titles to choose from, you’re literally spoilt for choice, e.g. Daily Mail, The Daily Telegraph, The Guardian, The Independent, Daily Express, The Sun, The Times, Daily Mirror, etc.
Some are more in-depth than others, some are more entertaining than others.
It’s definitely something which you don’t find in Singapore.
And that’s one of the things I cherish about being in the UK – the quality, scope and diversity of print media on offer.
I learnt so much through reading the papers in my brief two weeks there.
Many of the articles were brilliant, exactly what you’d want from a quality paper…objectivity, in-depth analysis, raising of pertinent issues, well-structured expository, precise and apt use of English words, beautifully-crafted phrases, etc.
Wonderful stuff.
Our local media has a long ways to go yet.
But we’re sucha small country…
