I read with great interest the articles about Andrew Lloyd Webber’s exciting new musical “Love Never Dies”, which is supposed to be the sequel to *gasp!* “The Phantom of the Opera”…only, like, the most successful musical of all time.
It officially opens at the Adelphi on March 9, but the excitement is building up already.
The first thing that most people would ask would be – How do you top THE greatest show of all time?
According to the Telegraph article (here), “Phantom” has taken in more revenue (£2 billion) than Star Wars, Titanic and Avatar combined thus far!
Who in the right mind would even attempt a sequel to this?
Well, let’s just say that Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber is no fool when it comes to musical theatre.
You can’t argue with a man who’s made an estimated personal fortune of £750 million largely from musical theatre.
You can’t argue with a man who’s behind hit shows such as “Phantom”, “Cats”, “Evita”, and “Sunset Boulevard”.
Anyway, even though there seems to be a lot of people who are repulsed by the idea of a “Phantom” sequel (honestly, I was too when I first heard it!), some early feedback from people who’ve actually seen the previews indicate that it seems to be a fantastic show.
I think it’s gonna be interesting.
Let’s see how it unfolds.
Hmm…if one takes it as a new story, then maybe it won’t be so repulsive (although I’m appalled too, for now, but then again, one gets curious).
But it’s really a brand new story since there is no sequel to the story of the Phantom of the Opera.
Well, apparently it’s “loosely” based on the original Phantom. I’m not too sure how much connection there really is, although it does seem like there is very little connection. (Moreover, now it’s based in Coney Island!)
Phantom of the Opera is a classic and is one of the best plays ever”-.
i love classic operatic arias and Phantom Of The Opera is one of the best musical ””
