I once asked if anyone has ever heard a “woot!”.
I managed to get a good answer on the origin of the term, but not as to whether people actually say it out in real life.
Now my next question is whether anyone has ever heard a “pffft!”?
(I believe there are 3 “f”s in the word, but this is open for argument.)
A typical usage of the word is as such:
“You think you’re so cool? Pffft!“
So my question is – Has anyone ever heard a “pffft!” being executed in real life before.
And if so, how is it supposed to sound like?
(NB: A cursory glance at the five-letter term reveals to me that there are no vowels. As such, even though I’m not a linguist, I am curious as to how the term should be phonetically executed.)
sounds very “poof”
Yeah but there’s a “t” in the end…so maybe it’s “pooft”? Ha!
Just drag out the ‘F’ sound, put a “puh” in front for the P and leave out the ‘t’. Heh heh.
i thot its the sound of someone sticking out his tongue…
i believe i saw it in a comic strip before
Elaine: Yeah I think I get whatcha sayin’…the blowing-air-with-your-tongue-between-your-lips move.
Estique: Yup I believe you’re right. But the question is…how often do you see it being done in real life? Ah-ha! =)
I have heard it, and I do it on occasions. Haha! Make sure you say something corny in front of me next time and I’ll do it for you!
I’m sure people do it quite often.
Elaine: I am highly incapable of corny comments in my speech, but I’ll try my hardest, ha!
LF: Really? Ok, next time do it for me! =)
little kids do it all the time. people are just trying to spell out the sound.. :) like “mmm…”
