Radio Talk

There is this theory that as you grow older, you will move down in radio frequency.

Meaning that when you’re in your early to mid-teens, you listen to 98.7FM.

Then perhaps as an old teen/young adult you might go for Power 98.

Then most working adults (like myself) will listen to Class 95.

Then you might reach the stage in your life (maybe late 30′s to 40′s perhaps) where you would rather just listen to classical music on 92.4FM.

Then of course, as you know, most oldies love to tune in to Gold 90.5FM.

There are of course always exceptions, but this is the general rule.

If you’ve never heard anyone tell you this theory before…then you heard it from me!

Morning Express (Vernetta, Glenn and FD)

Now I don’t listen to the radio that much, but in the instance that I do, I will only tune into Class 95.

(Most of the time, I would rather listen to podcasts.)

Anyway, in the mornings on my way to work I’d occasionally tune into the “Morning Express” featuring Vernetta Lopez, Glenn Ong and The Flying Dutchman.

To be honest, I don’t think it’s a show with much substance.

Occasionally they’d talk about pertinent or interesting topics…but most of the time, I hate to say it but I think it’s quite a trashy show.

I like Vernetta best.

I think she’s the funniest and wittiest amongst the three. I have never come across a funnier female radio personality than Vernetta Lopez.

She’s great…but the same can’t be said for the other two.

It’s sad, cos I reckon the “Morning Express” has incredible listenership because of its morning slot…but the quality of the show doesn’t always measure up.

Cartunes With Jean & Tim

I listen to this show most evenings on my way home from work.

It gives me brief respite from the madness of rush hour traffic.

I only listen to this show because of Tim Oh.

This guy is great!

He sounds a bit soft, but I always love his punchlines…they’re really funny.

Jean Danker is a bit too giggly for me.

I think she’s perfected the art of laughing on cue, regardless of whether it’s funny or not.

Sometimes I think laughing at every single statement made is a bit too much.

But she serves as the perfect muse for Tim’s humour and stuff, which is great.

They have quite a good chemistry going on.

Love Songs With Yaz

This show is great, especially if you’re driving home late at night after a date or something.

Yaz is the perfect DJ for a programme like this, and the tone and timbre of her voice is just perfect.

And I love her personality too.

They couldn’t have chosen a better person to host this show.

You gotta love some of the old love songs they play on “Love Songs with Yaz”.

I also like it when she reads out some of the love dedications on air during the show.

Some are cheesy, but some are really sweet.

Late night, driving home, hearing a great 80′s or 90′s love song on the radio…it just doesn’t get any better than this.

  1. oops, I prefer FM90.5 because I like oldies! And the newer songs I listen to are a bit alternative, so they don’t air it.

For the Chinese channels, it’s the other way around.

The latest pop songs are on FM93.3 (= FM98.7), older songs on FM95.8 (=class 95) and Chinese oldies on FM97.2 (=FM90.5).

  2. Oh, you like 90.5FM? I think they play a good selection of Carpenters hits right? And all the good stuff like Beatles, Paul Simon, Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, John Lennon, etc.

Quite nice to listen to sometimes.

  3. i’ve only ever listened to Gold 90.5 since i was 13. haha

    hmm..so ur theory FAILS!!!

  4. Estique: Hmm, either that or you’re…*ahem*…

  5. your theory fails. period.

  6. Don’t like Tim. Too corny. Also has no respect for his co-hosts, always interrupting them and boasting about his achievements. No timing. Yeah. Agree with you a lot on Vernetta though.. very witty and good timing. Still, morning radio sucks without my regular cup of Joe Augustin and Petrina…

  7. S: Hey by the way, speaking of Joe Augustin, did you know that he has this podcast that he does with a lady named Shareen? It’s called the “Shareen and Joe” show. I just knew about it. I have been listening to it a bit. It’s quite interesting.
