Twitter…The New Facebook

I think it’s time I talked a bit about Twitter.

Nope, I’m not on Twitter, cos I’ve yet to be convinced of the “essentiality” of Twitter…and I certainly hope I don’t ever have to succumb to joining Twitter.

But I gotta admit, it does seem to be the next HUGE thing, if not already so.

The internet is a funny thing.

First it was Friendster, which nobody thought would ever die.

But then it died, and MySpace caught on (but more so in US, not so much in our region).

Then MySpace kinda died off and made way for Facebook, which we were all very sure would never ever die.

But guess what? Twitter is the new media darling now.

But of course, I don’t honestly think that Twitter would in any way obliterate Facebook, cos they are essentially two very different concepts.

Twitter is basically micro-blogging (which Facebook also has in the form of “status updates” by the way, but maybe just not as cool), whereas Facebook is still a social networking site to make friends, share photos, create events, etc.

However, you gotta admit one thing – there are only 24 hours in a day, and a person cannot possibly spend 24 hours both on Twitter and on Facebook.

So something’s gotta give.

And it certainly seems like some people are not finding Facebook as addictive as it once seemed to be.

I still believe that the decline of Facebook started the moment they made their latest revamp to their site.

(Y’know…as in the moment Facebook became “quizbook” and the main page became so cluttered with lots of junk info.)

I was very much against the latest revamp, cos I saw absolutely no value in it at all.

And many months on, I still think it was a bad move.

I still like the previous version of Facebook the best.

As for Twitter…well, I have no doubt it is highly-addictive, cos if not, why are so many people so hooked on it nowadays?

Obviously there must be some fun to it.

But I hope I never have to succumb to Twitter.

Are you on Twitter?

  1. i am. haha

  2. Oooh…what’s your link? Can share?!?

  3. I’m on Twitter, but I don’t update it nor check it much. I only use Twitter when I’m mobile to update my status, but since Facebook has a mobile version, I use that too.

I like the new feature to comment on friends’ posts & statuses on Facebook.

  4. use my email add to find me lor

  5. Lingfeng: Yeah, the “comment” feature was on since the previous version…that’s why I still liked the previous version of Facebook best. I think that version made sense. Now this new version adds absolutely no value whatsoever to Facebook. In fact, it makes it even less user-friendly.

Estique: Er…I need to register account first before I can search is it? I can’t seem to do any searching at the moment. I wanna resist the temptation to register an account!

  6. i think u need to register to follow..but i think dun register also can see…. hmm.. wait ar..i’d try to insert it into my blog. haha..

  7. Took me a while to like Twitter. As am not a RSS person, the instant updates from everywhere when an event is going on can be rather entertaining.
