Dream Finals

Let’s talk a bit about dream finals.

So UEFA got its dream Champions League finals match-up between Manchester United and Barcelona last night.

Whether it was a “cleverly engineered” move or not (remember the dubious officiating between Chelsea-Barcelona?), the fact remain that this is probably one of the more memorable Champions League final in many years…simply because of the grandiosity of the occasion.

Manchester United and Barcelona are arguably the two biggest and strongest clubs in the world right now, and it is only fitting that they meet each other in the final.

In other words, its the final that the whole world wants to see.

Which leads me to the NBA…

Obviously, the ultimate dream Finals this year would be LeBron vs Kobe.

No two ways about it.

We may not get many more years of LeBron and Kobe both in their primes…so it would be all the more special if we get Cavs-Lakers in the Finals this year.

But it’s funny how quickly things can change.

The Cavs swept their first two series (4-0 and 4-0), and everyone (including myself) assumed that LeBron would not only definitely make it to the Finals, but would win the title as well.

And if anything, we thought that Kobe would not make it to the Finals this year because of Houston and Denver.

But now it seems almost certain that LeBron is NOT going to the Finals this year after going down 3-1 to the Magic.

And it seems that Kobe has a decent chance of making the Finals as the Lakers are just 1 win away from it.

I think if you’re David Stern, you must be thinking: If I can’t get LeBron and Kobe in the Finals, at least I get Kobe. One out of two ain’t that bad.

I don’t think many people would want to see a Denver-Orlando NBA Finals this year.
