I’m Now Aware Of What Songcraft Means To Me

Last night I had a strange dream.

I dreamt that I was no longer in charge of Songcraft.

Yes, the group that I had founded and led was no longer mine.

We had been going on nicely and quietly for two years, with just a small group of people. But it was apparent that this was the way things were going to be…and maybe I was also starting to lose a little bit of interest in the group after awhile.

I might have been a little complacent.

So one fine day a group of new faces with big dreams for Songcraft decided to come into the group and elect a new leader of Songcraft from amongst themselves.

They had visions for Songcraft that were obviously different from mine. They wanted to take Songcraft in a different direction.

Even though the takeover process was done in a legal way, I was obviously saddened and angered.

But most importantly, it gave me a wake-up call.

I decided to fight back and reclaim what I felt was rightfully mine. I realised I never had more passion and drive to want to lead Songcraft than at this point in time.

So an EGM was called, and the showdown was set.

In just a span of a few weeks, Songcraft’s membership suddenly swelled to 500 people, thanks to the constant media coverage (which thankfully, was always on our side).

Both sides mobilised their armies of supporters. The New Guard had theirs, but we the Old Guard had even more.

It was obvious from the get-go that we the Old Guard were like a mob baying for blood.

We were not very different from a horde of barbarians in the way we conducted ourselves at the EGM…shouting, screaming and chanting as if we were a motley crew.

We never gave any of the New Guards a decent opportunity to speak, but cheered like fanatics whenever one of our own was speaking.

What’s the problem with that? Songcraft is ours isn’t it? We’re just fighting to reclaim what is rightfully ours! Anyway, this is a democracy so we’re free to fight for what we want! This is called “freedom of speech”!

In fact, we were so unruly that one of the New Guard exco members told us to “Sit down and shut up!”

But we didn’t care. We were out for blood.

How dare she tell us to sit down and shut up! Soooo disrespectful! The nerve of her!

We didn’t care even if this EGM exposed the ugliness in us all. All we wanted was to kick the New Guard out of our circle.

(But the beauty of it all is that the media will never focus on the rude and ugly behaviour on our part…because they are on our side. Yay!)

So in the end, we won a no-confidence vote in our favour by a comfortable margin, and the New Guard graciously resigned.

Yes, Songcraft is mine once again. I’ve wrested control of the circle back once again.

Victory is now mine…but what have I really won?

What have I really won?

Am I not merely back to square one…albeit licking the wounds from a messy catfight?

And it took a well-orchestrated coup to make me realise what I had in the first place.

I’m now aware of what Songcraft means to me.

Very aware.
