Tonight I’m once again reminded of the songwriting genius of Noel Gallagher.
Coldplay may have more stagemanship. Blur might have been more ingenious. Maroon 5 may be more fashionable. Radiohead may have more critical acclaim.
But no one writes better rock anthems than Noel Gallagher of Oasis.
At the end of the day, if you take away all the razzle and dazzle, the bells and whistles…it’s all about the strength of the song.
And Noel has written many truly great, great rock songs over the years.
Great songs never die. Everyone loves and remembers a great song.
How he comes up with all these wonderful, soaring rock anthems is just beyond me.
I mean, the Coldplay concert was thoroughly entertaining and all that…but through it all, I never felt the surge of euphoria as I did when Oasis were belting out their big hits.
It’s just a different feeling, a different level altogether.
Noel’s songs just give you that “high” which only truly great rock songs can.
And that’s what made Oasis, Oasis.
amen to that! brilliant concert! i’m still having sore throat, haha
Yeah, I don’t know many of Oasis songs, except the really popular ones of old, and I was bowled over whenever Noel performed his numbers last night.
Firdaus: Yeah, you were totally singing along to almost every song man!
Lingfeng: Somehow when Noel sang (especially certain songs like “Masterplan” and “Don’t Look Back In Anger”), it felt so sincere. Probably because he was the one that wrote those wonderful songs.
