My latest Amazon shipment just arrived and one of the items was a “Outside Looking In: The Best of Gin Blossoms” CD.
The Gin Blossoms were in my opinion one of the most underrated bands of the 90′s.
I was a huge fan of theirs.
They were the band I grew up with from late primary school till early secondary school. They were kinda like before the whole Britpop (Oasis, Blur, Suede, Pulp, etc) phenomenon.
I remember back when people used to faithfully tune into a weekly radio show called “American Top 40″ hosted by Shadoe Stevens (yes folks, radio chart shows were actually relevant back then!)…one fine day I heard this song called “Hey Jealousy” by the Gin Blossoms and it just blew me away.
And I tuned in every subsequent week just to hear that song one more time.
To be honest, their songs sound mostly the same. Instrumentally, that is.
I mean, you could listen to an album of theirs and you wouldn’t be faulted for thinking that they recorded the entire album in one single take.
But what I loved about the Gin Blossoms were their great melodies, and most of all, their heartfelt and sincere songs.
It was a great experience to be able to have had followed a band like the Gin Blossoms.
Listening to their songs brings back many fond memories of yesteryear.
(*Other great Gin Blossoms song you might wanna check out include Until I Fall Away, Mrs Rita, Allison Road, and Found Out About You.)
Hi! Went to listen to some samples.
Some of the songs sounded a bit country/folk. I seem to have heard “Follow You Down” before.
Have you heard of The International Submarine Band? They were rather short-lived though and only had 1 full-length album “Safe at Home” (maybe Gram Parsons would ring a bell). They disbanded before the album was officially released.
I think you must have heard a few of their tunes before. I think the radio does play their (old) songs every now and then.
Hmmm…not heard of the International Submarine Band before, but maybe I’ve heard some of their tunes. Yeah somehow the name Gram Parsons sounds eerily familiar…
melikey “Follow You Down”. first heard it from How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days movie. suits the movie :)
