This is really fun – having to brainstorm on pieces which I can play at the wedding.
Obviously, there are severe limitations (due to my limited skills), so I can’t just think of any piece I want. It has to be within my limited abilities.
My list is more or less done. Here’s what I’ve compiled thus far.
Let me know what you think of them!
Schumann’s Kinderszenen, Op.15 No.1
Beautiful piece with beautiful harmonies. I’ve already talked about it in my previous post.
…
Big My Secret
This is the well-known masterpiece from the movie “The Piano”, and it is composed by Michael Nyman. A very sentimental and moving piece. I always love playing this piece. I think it’ll definitely do the trick at weddings.
…
Brahms’ Waltz in Ab Major, Op.39 No.15
Probably one of Brahms’ most famous waltzes. Most people I’ve asked have heard this tune before…somewhere, somehow.
…
Schumann’s Traumerei
The ever-famous Traumerei. Seemingly simple, inexplicably profound. A highly reflective piece of music. It’ll definitely work.
…
Schubert’s Impromptu in Gb Major, Op.90 No.3
A personal favourite of mine. As I mentioned before, I would definitely want this at my own wedding.
…
Liszt’s Consolation No.2 in E Major
A rather “wedding-ish” piece, in my opinion. Light, melodic, carefree.
…
Bach’s Prelude No.1 in C Major
I suppose there are a few ways to play this, but I would opt for something a little more up-tempo and optimistic.
Great list!
For the entrance of the flower girl and boy, I would go for Bach’s Prelude No.1 in C Major. My only concern is that it got a little boring after a while.
As for the signing of the certificate, I am definitely going for Schumann’s Kinderszenen, Op.15 No.1.
I think that Schubert’s Impromptu in Gb Major, Op.90 No.3 is great for a wedding. However, I seemed more like an item in itself rather than just a background music for part of the wedding. Therefore I would start the wedding by having this piece being performed to get everyone in the mood, followed immediately by the entrance of the flower girl and boy.
You got more pieces? Wondering what will be a good one for a) Bride’s entrance, b) First exit c) Re-entry.
Wah. What a shortlist you have there. I actually enjoyed watching or rather listening to those music.
Maybe I am a more contemporary guy. I was thinking of other things besides what you have shortlisted.
Valentine by Jim Brickman,
Heaven by Bryan Adams,
Colours of the Wind by V.Williams
Can You feel the love tonight by Elton John (my favourite)
Canon in D (Johann Pachelbel) but this one a bit too common.
I am not suggesting to you lah. Just that everybody has their own shortlist of music for wedding. That’s mine. Hopefully I get to listen to them in the next few years…..
Hi Chin Hon: Good points there. I agree with everything. Yup I think the Schumann’s Kinderszenen, Op.15 No.1 will make a great piece for the signing, but the only problem is that it is a rather short piece! (Only 1:30 at most.) So have to try to find a way to work round this problem.
Yup I will be brainstorming on a few more pieces soon (just for the fun of it!).
Jerron: Yup I get what you mean. I suppose everyone will have their own special shortlist when it comes to weddings. Music is a very subjective thing. I think your list is very very nice too!
(And yes, hopefully I will get to listen to these songs in the near future, if you know what I mean…haha!)
