Power Jam 2008

Last Saturday, my band took part in the Power Jam 2008 auditions at Timbre (Substation). Power Jam is an annual band competition organised by Power 98 FM, and is touted as Singapore’s ultimate band competition.

There were a total of around 70+ bands that went for the auditions. Each band was only given exactly 2 minutes to perform, not a second more.

Many of the bands were really good, and many of them are already quite established in their own right and have been playing for events such as Baybeats, the Singapore Arts Festival and the like.

Out of the 70+ bands, only 18 bands were selected for the semi-finals (to be held this Saturday), and we were ecstatic to find out that our band made it through. Considering we’re nowhere near being an “established” band yet, that was an encouraging result.

The semi-finals is this Saturday afternoon at Timbre. All 18 bands are given exactly 7 minutes to perform a total of two songs. The performances will probably start at around 5pm or so, if I’m not mistaken.

I think Timbre is gonna be packed this Saturday. It’s gonna be really exciting and I’m really looking forward to it!

If you happen to be free and if you happen to want to come down to Timbre to check out the 18 best bands this year, feel free to come down.

But must make sure you save the loudest cheer for us. =)
