S’porean Singer-Songwriter Makes Waves On YouTube

I was reading this post on Tomorrow.sg and I discovered that there’s this clip that’s currently making waves on YouTube.

This talented and beautiful young lady goes by the name of Ling and her song is entitled “Larkin Step”.

As of right now, the video has almost 1,000,000 views. Simply incredible! It goes to show you the power of YouTube and the Internet in today’s day and age. There are more than 11,000 comments on her clip, and most of them are highly positive indeed.

Ling is even performing her own gig at the Esplanade Stage@Powerhouse this Thursday.

It’s great to know that there are such talented musicians out there in S’pore.

I think she’s got a good future in music. Her star looks really bright, judging by the comments on YouTube.

I think she’s an extremely talented singer. She’s got an excellent voice, without a doubt. It sounds almost like Norah Jones’s voice, which is fantastic…cos I love Norah Jones.

Her lyrics are awesome too. Definitely some really good stuff there. Highly original, and not cliched like most commercial pop songs.

I can see why she’s got so many fans on YouTube.

Personally (and I’m being as balanced and objective as I can here), I’m not a huge fan of the song, cos the melody didn’t really do it for me, but that’s just me. I tend to be big on melody, and I didn’t really manage to catch this particular song’s melody even after a few listenings. But I stress again, it’s just me. (I’m one of those weird people who couldn’t get Snow Patrol’s “Chasing Cars” either.)

Everyone reacts to different songs differently. What works for you might not work for me, and vice versa.

But nonetheless, it’s really encouraging to know of such talented musicians out there in our own island.

I wish her all the best in her musical journey!
