If there’s one thing as impressive as Floyd Mayweather’s 39-0 record, it is the most singular record of the S’pore men’s water polo team having NEVER failed to win a gold medal at every SEA Games since 1965.
They’ve done it again this time round, even though this was supposed to be one of the weakest national water polo teams ever fielded for the SEA Games.
Our crucial match was against the Philippines, really. We won that match 7-3, when in the last SEA Games, things were much tighter at 7-6.
Well done boys! You’ve done us real proud!
Forget soccer. If there’s one sport in S’pore which we can truly boast of being untouchable in the region, it is water polo.
Perhaps other nations are catching up on us. Perhaps we might be beaten some day. But as of now, we’ll savour the winning feeling while it lasts.
