Chanced upon this song on Channel 20 (MTV) recently, and I thought it sounded pretty interesting. Seems like they’re playing this song quite frequently on MTV nowadays.
Y’know, it’s one of those songs which you listen for the first time and go “Hmm, I’ve got a feeling this will grow on me.”
And it did.
First things first: The verse arrangement (especially the bassline) sounds almost exactly like Sting’s “Every Breath You Take”.
Second, this song kinda reminds me a bit of one of Maroon 5′s biggest hit “She Will Be Loved”. It’s that kind of a song. Tell me if you listen to the chorus kick in and not get reminded of the line “I don’t mind spending everyday, out on your corner…”
I think this song will become a popular hit, simply because it follows the same winning formula of “She Will Be Loved”…and that is what most fans love Maroon 5 for – the ability to produce high quality pop-rock songs with great melodies. It’s hard to find bands such as Maroon 5 nowadays. (It’s all about the melodies, people!)
The melody is a rather simple but effective one. Also, nice recurring piano-hitting open chord in the pre-chorus.
(Argh! I’m over-analysing songs yet again!)
Lastly, I really cannot figure out whether the very first line sung by Adam Levine (“I asked her to stay…”) is accidentally or intentionally sung off-key.
Nice link! thanks for the video. I just saw Maroon 5 a few weeks ago in DC. We had third row seats for the soundcheck and the concert, it was unreal! We also met the guys after soundcheck for a chat and photo!
Check out the photos!

Nice pics, Deb! I’m sure you had a blast. Wish I was there too…
I think the bass riff seems to resemblance “Every Breath You Take” because if the guitar picking in the background.
