Excited

I’m really looking forward to this Friday’s 5th Songcraft session.

Even though we took a break for the month of August because I went back for reservist (yes, I am quite an important person, haha!), things in the circle have been coming along pretty nicely.

Lately I’ve been receiving quite a number of correspondences from new people who have expressed interest in attending this Friday’s session, which is rather encouraging. Really looking forward to meeting these new friends. It’s quite an exciting feeling meeting new people for the first time…especially people who share the same passions as you.

I just can’t really describe it. Some warm, tingly sensation of excitement I guess.

It’s cool that we’re slowly starting to connect with more and more songwriting enthusiasts in Singapore. That was one thing we wanted to do all along.

Not only that, there also seems to be a strong bond forming within the “core group” of the circle (can’t think of a better way to describe it). We’ve really hit it off with one another, and have been writing songs together and even going to one another’s house to do recordings!

I’ll have to admit that I was slightly (only “slightly”)…what should I say, worried/disappointed/troubled when our attendance for the July session was rather small. Yup sure, it was a fantastic session and we had lots of fun…but at the back of my mind, I was starting to wonder if we’d kind of “hit a wall”, so to speak. I wondered if that’s as far as the circle would go/grow.

I began to start thinking of “what’s next?” and “where do we go from here?” and stuff like that.

But it’s funny how things develop. Some months you get no new people joining (like in July), and then suddenly you get a whole list of new people out of the blue. As Kah Loong concurred with me, it’s like the stock market sometimes - some months good, some months bad.

When I look back and take stock of how far we’ve come, I always like to take a step back and ask myself: How has the Songcraft circle changed things? What has it done in the last five, six months?

Well, if anything, I think it’s done this: It’s given people the motivation to write songs. It’s spurred people on to creating good music…music that they love. It’s given people a precious environment where they can share their songs to others.

It’s given people the message that “Hey, songwriting is no longer the “unsung artform” - If you write songs in your bedroom, you don’t only have to play it to your own mirror…there’s a whole group of like-minded friends out there waiting to listen to your song, waiting to appreciate your song.”

It’s given people the message that “Hey, there’s actually a group in boring ol’ Singapore that loves writing songs, and loves meeting together to celebrate the art of songwriting.”

Most importantly, it’s taught me that wonderful things can be accomplished if you have enough passion for it.

  2. Yup, thanks for informing. It’s the “S-POP” thingy right? Sounds quite tempting.

I did inform the group about this competition…but not sure if anyone was actually interested to join it, haha! Perhaps chinese songs might not be our forte.

  3. Jeremy, what’s very real — but not so apparent — is the collaborations that have resulted from the meetups. And those collaborative pieces were done via email, with only the meetups as the rehearsals. It’s quite remarkable, considering this group has only been around for 6 months.
