Y’know, someone should seriously do a nationwide poll on which is the greatest NDP song of all time. (”Nationwide” as in, all 4,553,009 of us S’poreans.)
But since it seems to me like no such census is going to take place in the near future, let me conduct my own:
In your opinion, which is the BEST national day song ever?
(I’ll narrow down the choices to only the good stuff, i.e. eliminate anything that came after 2000, haha! Just kidding.)
1 - Home
2 - Chan Mali Chan
3 - Stand Up For Singapore
4 - Count On Me Singapore
5 - One People, One Nation, One Singapore
6 - It’s The Little Things
7 - Munnaeru Valliba
8 - Five Stars Arising
9 - We Are Singapore
10 - There’s No Place I’d Rather Be (a.k.a. “Home (Part II)”)
11 - Reach Out For The Skies
12 - Where I Belong
13 - Other (please specify)
All songs can be heard here.
Please log in your answers through the “comments” function. (Sorry, I’m not tech-savvy enough to implement a polling feature.)
I’ll start.
“Home” by Dick Lee - It’s the only song I sang in unison with the crowd at a national day parade that actually moved me to tears.
It’s the Little Things
actually i also like Five Stars arising. =) and erm…voices from the heart (chinese version) and erm. stand up for singapore? heeeee
“It’s The Little Things” is a very close second for me, after “Home”! I love the melody!
but i like the way Five Stars arising was sung in the version on that website.
No. 4.
I like the end when everyone sings together and there are harmonisation. Somewhat like Voices That Care kinda delivery :)
Apart from Home, I also like Stand Up For Singapore, Count On Me Singapore, One People, One Nation, One Singapore and We’re Singapore..
I still remember the lyrics even though I have not heard the songs for ages! The songs now, don’t give me a lasting memory…
Here’s my list, from most to least IN my favourites.
1. Reach Out for The Skies (so lively and fun! The dance is really great too! ^^)
2. Where I Belong (Simply beautiful)
3. We will Get There (Too nice!)
4. Will You (Too lively! xD)
5. Home (Touching)
6. My Island Home (fun to sing LOL)
I actually like the recent version of ‘Five Stars Arising’ that can be found in the NDP CD. Where I belong is nice as well. (:
Hi SB, yeah “Where I Belong” is kinda growing on me too. Have been listening to it lately and I think it’s a really nice song!
Hi Ayumi, that’s a great list you have there! You must know your NDP songs pretty well huh!
I love Will You,We will get there and Stand for singapore….The song of will you rocks while we will get there is a very wonderful song and stand up for singapore is a fast and cool song…….i love all the singapore songs except there’s no place i rather be….

xD Haha, yup, guess I do. x3 But I forgot one, the most FAVOURITED ONE OF ALL MY FAVOURITE SONGS.. The um, rarely-found-online song: Deep in my Heart! ^^ ^^ ^^ ^^ ^^ ^^ ^^
That last comment was by my sis, who thinks “We Will Get There” is called “Deep in My Heart”. - -”
How could she act as me?!
Still, lol thanks for replying. ;) I guess I DO know my NDP songs well!
i like together, the song of 1999.
both english and chinese songs are meangingful!
and the chinese version doesnt sound weird..
some of the chinese version sounds weird..
they sounds like direct translation.
but this song, it doesnt.
they seem to blend well, maybe it’s no me.
we will get there in 2002 is not bad too!

as for this, they seem to blend pretty well, maybe it only applies to me.
we will get there in 2002 is also not bad!
Ayumi - Haha! That’s funny, so your sis has been commenting on your behalf!
Ang - Good point. I’ve just gone to listen to “Together” again (both the English & Chinese version), and it’s a pretty good song! Evelyn Tan is quite a good singer. Maybe I’m too used to listening to the English version, but I have to say I think the English version sounds a little bit nicer to me than the Chinese version. But that’s just me.
Hey Jeremy, i chanced upon your blog and saw your blog post -What’s your favourite NDP Song of all time.
Same sentiment. i felt that songs after 2000 are still ok.If you ask me to sing the NDP songs from 2000-2006, i couldnt really remember. =X
I’ve intiated a poll in my blog.
The poll url is at: http://www.september-love.net/blog/
it is located at the right sidebar.. under the heading- POLL.
Perhaps we both can encourage people to poll.
Although we cant get 4,553,009 replies, but we can get a better answer on what song people like the most.
Anyway, HAPPY NATIONAL DAY!
Hi September, cool poll you have there on your blog. I’ve just logged in my vote on your blog. (I voted for “Home”, haha!)
i love Home too.. 2nd will be this year’s NDP song./ =)
1st - Home
2nd - It’s the little things
but of course…
I’m curious what is “that website” referred to by Shir with a version of “Five Stars Arising”. Thanks.
Hi Su Chong,
I believe she’s referring to the official NDP website: http://www.ndp.org.sg/multimedia/audio/index.html
Hi Jzin,
We have the exact same taste, haha!
good
I Like:
1.Qing kong wan li/Shine for singapore
2.Will You
3.My Island Home/Xin Fu De Jia Ting
4.Reach out for the skies/chinese verson.
actually all same same lah.(don’t mistake me because i put them in numbers.)
i downloaded the songs in youtube.
‘Home’ was the best , it was probably the onli song (other than the nation anthem and pledge) i actually sang with the crowd … YES SINGAPORE IS HOME !!
Hey you have the same name as me ! =D by the way… whats the lyrics for the song “Home” by Dick Lee ?
Home is of course the best! I kind of like Will You, but that’s because I love Emma Yong and Sebastian Tan (:
