Ok, this is getting a wee bit crazy.
While I don’t want this blog to turn into a “hey-look-everyone’s-covering-my-songs”-type of blog, I think I really wanna talk about this excellent remake of my song ”At My Window” which Ivan did recently. Not because I think my songs are that great, but because the cover was done really well. Really! I’m praising the cover, not my own song…haha! (I can just hear everyone going *yeah right* in the background!)
And also, it’s not everyday that people do fantastic covers of your own songs, so I really gotta milk this for all that it is worth, haha!
Ok, firstly, check out this post by Ivan which introduces the “At My Window” cover which he created using GarageBand software. (I really gotta save up for a MacBook I tell ya.) Check out this post also for more details on the recording process.
You can also download the clip from this archive.org link.
Ivan’s interest in this song was apparent since the day I presented it in the May Songcraft session, as he offered to not only sing seconds after I presented, but also presented his own solo version at the end of that session. I’m not really sure that my song is that good, but his interest in this song is definitely very encouraging!
I like the tambourine backing. And check out the guitar solo after the third verse man! That’s an excellent touch. And the harmonies he sings sound great too. I especially like the harmonies in the second verse.
I really need to learn how Ivan does all these cool recording tricks. The songs sound like magic in his hands.
Lastly, here’s the original version which I presented not-too-fantastically at the session in May.
Rain falls gently as it comes to my window
Reflect the warmest haze of the lazy summer day
The pitter patter falls as it echoes and the winds blow
All is dark and gloomy on this quiet month of May
She calls silently as I watch from my window
Her face so warm and tender, soft is her hair
Wait now lonely heart, now gently as we go
We give no words but then a glance is all we share
The lonely memories linger on at my window
Tell all the stories of the days that have gone by
Oh bring, oh bring me back to the place only we know
That very place that I could never say goodbye
Clouds roll gently by as the sun shines through my window
All is brightness all is lightness once again
The rain is over as I watch from my window
The sunlight glimmers but still the memories remain
This cover is good. Voice a bit muffled..but otherwise it sounds great. The harmony was great. Yup, this is good. :)
nice song, good cover.. was very tempted to make another music video.. hahahaha
Very nice cover. I especially like the solo guitar part.
I have checked with friends regarding the muffled voice- should be due to the mic, other than that, I thought it was a great cover. Ivan’s voice sound very right also.
Bizzi: make another music video leh. :P
Really ah? So it was the microphone and not the singer? I’m quite sure it’s the mic AND the singer’s problem lah! LOL.
No lah Ivan, I think you’ve got a good voice. I wish mine was half as good as yours!
