Michael Phelps Sets World Record in 200 Freestyle

How in the world?!?

Someboday please tell me Michael Phelps didn’t just do a 1:43.86 in the 200m Free, the first sub-1:44 in history?

I’m not skeptical…I’m just astounded. Yup, “astounded” is a good word to use here.

He not only eclipsed Ian Thorpe’s once-thought-to-be-unbeatable world record of 1:44.06, he beat his “nearest rival” Hoogie by almost two and a half seconds! (And we thought Hoogie would be the man to beat!)

Meanwhile, backstroke extraordinaire Aaron Peirsol goes below 53s in the 100m Back for the first time in history with a 52.98 effort. He owns the five fastest times in history for the event.
